Our Honest Experience Exploring Jezersko, Slovenia 🏔️

Woman in 'Lets Get Lost' shirt on balcony with mountain view

We booked a few days in Jezersko, Slovenia.

Good hiking, beautiful mountain views and a little escape from everyday life.

What we found was one of the most peaceful corners of the Alps we've ever visited.

Incredible mountain huts and crystal-clear springs.
Crossing the old Austrian border on foot.
Ice cold spring water.
Jezersko completely stole our hearts.

If you are planning a hiking trip in Slovenia, here's everything we recommend after spending four unforgettable days there.

🏡 Waking Up To Grintovec Every Morning

Our Airbnb honestly couldn't have been in a better location.

Every morning we opened the curtains to a postcard view of Grintovec, Slovenia's highest peak in the Kamnik–Savinja Alps.

The apartment was peaceful, surrounded by forest and hosted by the loveliest owners who made us feel instantly welcome.

It's the kind of place where you naturally slow down.

Coffee in bed.

Mountain views.

No rush to be anywhere.

Exactly our kind of holiday.

🥾 Hiking To Češka Koča

Originally we planned to summit Grintovec.

Then reality hit.

It was ridiculously hot.

So we changed our plans and hiked to Češka Koča, the oldest mountain hut in Slovenia.  And climbed Vratca which is a nice rock pillar just above the hut.

Honestly...

We didn't feel like we missed out at all.

The scenery the entire way was incredible.

💡 Our Tip

Walk the loop clockwise from the lake.

Trust us.

You will have the mountain panorama in front of you almost the entire hike instead of behind you.

Little decisions like that can completely change the experience.

There is something special about mountain huts in Slovenia.

Simple food.

Friendly people.

And everyone sitting outside enjoying the same incredible views.

🌲 Crossing Between Slovenia & Austria

The following day we headed towards Kärntner Storschitz using the old border trail.

One minute you are hiking through Slovenia...

A little while later you're standing in Austria.

Then before you know it, you are back in Slovenia again.

It made for such a unique hike.

Originally we hoped to complete the full loop.  But with Bella we had to turn around before the via ferrata (Klettersteig) section.

No regrets though.

The route itself was beautiful.

Bella absolutely loved this trip.

The forests kept things surprisingly cool despite the summer heat. The nearby lake became her favorite place for a swim after each hike.

💧 The Coldest Water We Have Ever Felt...

One of our favourite little discoveries wasn't on any itinerary.

It was a tiny natural spring tucked away in the valley.

The water...

Honestly.

It might have been the coldest water we have ever touched.

Naturally, Kane couldn't resist jumping in.

Let's just say it woke him up very quickly 😂

🎒 What We Packed

Jezersko might be peaceful, but you're still in the mountains.

Here's what we found ourselves reaching for every day:

✔️ One of our comfortable organic tee for hiking

✔️ A cap for the strong alpine sun is a MUST

✔️ Lightweight backpack

✔️ Plenty of water and snacks, especially for Bella

✔️ Hoodie for cooler mornings and evenings

Even in summer the temperature drops surprisingly quickly once the sun disappears behind the mountains.

🌍 Would We Recommend Jezersko?

Absolutely.

If you are looking for lively nightlife and busy tourist attractions...

This probably isn't your place.

But if you love
- peaceful mountain villages
- incredible hiking
- mountain huts
- crystal-clear water
- and feeling like you discovered somewhere that's still a little under the radar...

Jezersko is hard to beat.

Sunny mountain landscape with green fields and a wooden fence under a blue sky with clouds.

Sometimes the best adventures aren't about ticking off famous destinations.

They are about finding somewhere that simply feels right.

And Jezersko was exactly that.

If you have any questions, feel free to send us a message. We are always happy to help.

And as always...

Stay Stoked,

Kane & Lis and lil Bella 🐶
